Richard Kalman
Hello, this is my Art Story
This is a site where I showcase both my artistic explorations and musical projects over
the years. A trip to Mexico in 1984 sparked an interest in exploring art. I studied art at
U.C. Berkeley Extension and California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. I began
drawing and painting with pencil, oil pastels, colored felt pens, and
poster and acrylic paints. I became enamored of and influenced by French impressionists,
Serat. Klee, Gaugin, Matisse, Van Gogh, the fauvists Braque and Rimbaud, and American
artists Marsden Hartley, Robert Henri, and satirists Red Grooms and Lyonel Feinenger.
Two projects are offered here showing 20 works created between 1984 and 1991.
You can find them in the Portfolio.
The Constancy of Music
Living Life Through Music
I was a folk-rock-hobby musician from teen days.
In 1991 I earned a BA in Music. From then on I
expanded my horizon to include chorale, gospel, and jazz vocal ensemble. In my portfolio I offer some of my best musical arrangements produced with many talented singers and players.
